The Business Management Associate of Science (AS) Degree program provides students with the fundamental knowledge and skills to begin building a business career or to prepare to complete a bachelor's degree. Along with providing a solid general business education, the Business Management AS Degree incorporates the practical application of sharpened problem-solving skills. There is an integration throughout the program that emphasizes developing the ability to make effective business managerial, administrative, and operational decisions. This degree includes the development of “soft skills” such as business etiquette, intelligence, social capital, and civic duties.
The Program covers key areas that prepare students for active and successful careers such as accounting, business law, economics, case study, creative problem solving, personal finance, and leadership. The program will provide students with the intellectual foundation necessary to contribute effectively and positively to a dynamic, challenging, and changing business environment. The curriculum is designed to preserve the culture and heritage of the Blackfeet People relative to business management by integrating cultural concepts into the course of study.
Learning Outcomes are as follows:
- Students will have a strong working knowledge of fundamental concepts in accounting, finance, management, information technology, business law, and economics through effective written and oral communication.
- Develop an understanding of business by applying and implementing business theories, practices, and applications that reflect the stakeholders of various organizations, societies, and cultures.
- Develop personal capacity in leadership, critical thinking, problem-solving, ethical decision-making, and social responsibility at all organizational levels, from the first-time supervisor through middle to executive levels.
Records Information Management
One-Year Certificate
Division of Business
Records Information Management One-Year Certificate provides students with the methods for developing and controlling office records. Organized record keeping is vital to legal, business, and other companies that must comply with regulations regarding the United States government’s records policy. National Record Association handbooks will be utilized as part of this curriculum. Along with the Records I and II classes, a Tribal Records course has been developed, which is the first of its kind for Tribal Colleges and Universities.
The BCC students will study the first recorded documents with the US government. The Tribal Records course begins with the Blackfoot Treaties and Agreements and then progresses to the Blackfeet Tribal's current issues. Included are the records of the Elouise Cobell(Blackfeet) class action lawsuit against the United States for the mismanagement of trust funds. (RIM1, RIM11, and Tribal Records will be offered online
Learning Outcomes are as follows:
- Students will code and arrange lists of personal business, and government names in proper order. Students will know how to apply records and information management principles to transfer information to an electronic database.
- Students will be able to identify federal government records, non-records, and personal papers; organize records into series; apply the inventory process; calculate disposal and transfer dates; and apply a program schedule and the GRS.
- Students will research Treaties and Agreements made between the Blackfoot Confederacy and the United States government, specifically the boundaries of the Amskapi Piikani (Blackfeet) Reservation and the Rights guaranteed in those documents.
The Business Department Does Sponsor and Its Students Participate in The:
Aibl: American Indian Business Leaders (Student Organization)
AIBL is the only American Indian non-profit organization solely dedicated to empowering business students in the United States. Our programs are designed to engage students in activities that stimulate, enhance, and expand educational experiences beyond traditional academic methods. All students are encouraged to participate in AIBL regardless of race, academic major, or career objectives.
Aihec: American Indian Higher Education Consortium
The American Indian Higher Education Consortium, a 501(c)(3) organization governed by a board of directors composed of the presidents of accredited United States-based Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), is celebrating nearly 50 years as the collective spirit and unifying voice of our nation’s 35 certified TCUs and 2 developing institutions—a unique community of tribally and federally chartered institutions working to strengthen tribal nations and make a lasting difference in the lives of American Indians and Alaska Natives. Provides an annual conference for all participants with new learning concepts each year. *This information was taken from the AIHEC site*
The Business Division Advisory Board consists of 5 individuals who have knowledge of the Business world and who are employed by local businesses or own businesses here on the Blackfeet Reservation. We have an annual meeting and get their input on the changes and any new changes needed. These people usually have an education in Business or are part of the workforce in business.
Our Policies are part of the Blackfeet Community College overall rules and regulations of the organization.
The Business Department sponsors the (A.I.B.L) American Indian Business Leaders Club and is a part of the (A.I.H.E.C) American Indian Higher Education Consortium club as advisors to the students who participate and throughout the year raise funds at special events for the cost of traveling to the annual conferences held in different areas throughout the United States where the student participate in events to represent the college.
Our very own student Joseph Sure chief was chosen to represent as a TCU ambassador at the White House Tribal Nations Summit. We are proud of Joseph and his accomplishments as he was also chosen as the AIHEC Student President. The first in BFCC history!
Joseph Sure Chief and Lisa Aims back are ambassadors for the Business Department as President and Vice President of AIBL and AIHEC.
