USDA Extension Seeking Interns for Summer 2026!

The USDA Extension Program is recruiting at least 3 more interns for the summer season! Applications can be picked up at the Kutoyiss Building (White Vo-ed Building).
BFCC Extension Semester & Summer interns gain hands-on agricultural experience through research and outreach projects on and off campus. Duties include fieldwork, gardening, maintenance, social media content creation, and agricultural education. Interns select a project after training, contributing to institutional success while developing leadership and professional skills. Opportunities to present at conferences and workshops are also included. Students must commit to a project, schedule, and hiring process to participate.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Fresh Vegetable Program: Learn stewardship through Native Grasses and farming practices.
  • Greenhouse Production: Extend the growing season for specialty crops.
  • Youth Development: Participate in regenerative grazing projects, farm management, and greenhouse implementation.
  • Forage Crop Production: Adapt effective cultivation practices to strengthen food security and promote healthy eating.
  • Native Trail Interpretation: Collaborate on a Piikani Language Plant Identification app, fostering land connection and language acquisition.
  • Archery Opportunity: Represent BFCC at the American Indian Higher Education Consortium.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with agricultural research and outreach projects.
  • Perform field and office work: gardening, mowing, maintenance, data preparation, and more.
  • Create outreach videos and manage social media content.
  • Choose a project and contribute to institutional success.
  • Engage in community projects and youth development.

REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES

Eligibility:

  • Must be a BFCC student (2.0 GPA or above).
  • Submit a 1-page agricultural interest statement.
  • Geared toward science degree programs.
  • Complete a temporary employment application.

Skills:

  • Vegetable and native plant gardening.
  • Rangeland monitoring and farm labor management.
  • Agribusiness sales and food service.
  • Knowledge of traditional ecological practices.

Expectations:

  • Willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (notify us of limitations).
  • Strong communication skills, detail-oriented, and highly motivated.
  • No more than 3 unexcused absences.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
