USDA Extension Program Expands Access to Local, Healthy Foods
The USDA Extension Program continues to demonstrate exceptional service to the Blackfeet community by providing 430 pounds of grass-fed beef, along with a monthly lettuce harvest yielding 25 fresh salad bowls. The locally grown and raised Montana beef was processed through the producer-owned Montana Premium Processing Cooperative, reflecting a strong commitment to value-added practices that support local agriculture.
USDA Extension Interns/Staff collaborated to cut and prepare steaks, roasts, chops and ground beef for BFCC staff and community members, ensuring quality and accessibility. In addition, our leafy greens are cultivated in our greenhouse using a hydroponic system and are harvested every two weeks or monthly, depending on winter solstice sunlight conditions. Please continue to watch for the availability of fresh greens in the coming weeks as we move towards solar equinox.
Thank you for your continued support of our Extension Program as we strive to provide and promote healthy, locally sourced foods for our communities.
