Apply Now: INBRE Statewide Scholars Program

January 6, 2026

The INBRE Statewide Scholars Program is now accepting applications from Montana-based undergraduate students interested in gaining hands-on experience in biomedical research. This competitive program offers students the opportunity to work closely with faculty mentors while contributing to meaningful research conducted right here in Montana.

Program Overview

Selected students will participate in a 10-week, full-time research experience (approximately 400 hours) at their home institution or another institution within the Montana INBRE Network. All research must be conducted in Montana under the guidance of a faculty mentor at a participating network institution.

At the end of the program, students are expected to present their research findings through a poster or podium presentation, providing valuable experience in scientific communication.

Student Support

Students selected for the program will receive:

  • A $7,000 stipend for the 10-week research period

  • Limited travel support, if research is conducted away from the student’s home institution (funding permitting)

  • Limited housing support, such as shared dorm rooms or other economy accommodations, if research is conducted away from the home institution (funding and housing availability permitting)

Who Should Apply?

This program is open to Montana-based undergraduate students (excluding MSU-Bozeman) who are interested in pursuing significant biomedical research. Students may conduct research at their home institution or another Montana INBRE Network institution.

Please note: For students applying to conduct research at the University of Montana in Missoula, UM mentors or the institution will be asked to contribute 50% of the stipend as matching support. In some cases, the UM Vice President for Research Office may assist with this match.
