The Blackfeet Community College Math/Science Building (South Wind Lodge) provides 13,000 square feet of classrooms, labs, offices, study and support spaces in a facility designed to reflect Blackfeet cultural values and traditions.

These include responsible use of resources, respect for the earth and working with the local climate.

Welcome back to Blackfeet Community College! Our campus is humming with the activity and promise that a new academic year brings. As I write our School of Nursing is beginning the first year as a Licensed RN Program, having accomplished a very successful first year of an LPN Program. Additionally, we are awaiting a major research grant, the Native American Research Center for Health, which will introduce BCC students to biomedical research.

In my third year as BCC's President, I remain deeply impressed by our strong college and as committed as ever to our mission. BCC seeks to prepare students for lasting achievement and responsible leadership through a superior, student-centered learning experience integrating liberal arts, professional education, and Blackfeet Language and Culture.

To help us move forward, I have worked with university leaders to support institutional priorities for the next few years. These include moving BCC toward a 4 year institution with the beginning of promising 4 year degrees with the University of Montana in education and social work. These degrees will be provided at BCC. These priorities are aligned with our strategic plan and ten year master plan.

• We will work to enhance the academic enterprise. BCC's first priority will always be the education we provide. I will look to our faculty and senior advisors for leadership in focusing and shaping this priority.

• We will undertake rigorous development, diversification and management of resources. While we are fiscally strong right now, we must ensure that we will have the resources we need in the future to be a great college. This includes increasing our fundraising efforts, securing diverse revenue streams, and stewarding our resources wisely and conservatively.

• We will serve our communities through workforce development partnerships at the local, state, and national levels.

• Finally, we will continue to engage the community and students in critical discourse about issues surrounding the Blackfeet Reservation.

This year we will develop a specific action plan for each priority in order to help us focus our resources most effectively.

This year we had an impressive review by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. A key part of the NWCCU reaccreditation process is demonstrating that we monitor the quality of our academic programs and our students' learning. We are a college that is, first and foremost, dedicated to educating students. Toward that end, we all aspire to continually improve. Implementing a system to assess our students' learning and to review our academic programs will inform our faculty's efforts to enhance the education we provide.

Mission Statement

The purpose of Blackfeet Community College is to provide the Blackfeet Nation and our "Universal Community" access to quality educational programs that prepare students for achievement in higher education, meaningful employment, basic skills instruction, and community education, while integrating the Blackfeet culture and language.

Mission Statement Goals

  1. Access - providing access to all members of the community's service district who desire education and training enabling them to pursue life-long educational opportunities.
  2. Achievement in higher education - providing opportunity for students to earn academic degrees and supporting their transfer to upper division higher education institutions.
  3. Meaningful employment - providing opportunity for students to earn degrees and certificates that would qualify them to gain meaningful employment.
  4. Basic skills - providing students with programs and courses that will increase their likelihood of academic success.
  5. Continuing education - providing the community with courses and programs that enrich community life and support line-long education.
  6. Integrating Blackfeet culture and language - providing programs and courses that sustain the past and promote the vitality of the Blackfeet Nation's future.
